The Col d’Izoard is a difficult mountain to climb. During the Tour de France – where the mountain is often included in the stage scheme it is therefore always referred to as a mountain of “hors” category. The climb from the south (Guillestre) is 15.9 kilometers long and has an average gradient of 6.9%. The climb from Briancon is twenty kilometers long and has an average gradient of 5.7%. The pass was first climbed in 1922 in the Tour de France. In total, the mountain was climbed thirty-two times. Our Routes des Grandes Alpes collection includes climbing the Izoard from both sides.
